Introduction to Art Nouveau Jewellery Seminar

DETAILS

This seminar will introduce Art Nouveau jewellery and highlight important jewellers and trends during the period between 1890 and 1910. Nature was the main inspiration for Art Nouveau jewelry, and many jewellery pieces featured animals like dragonflies or butterflies, flowers such as roses and orchids, plants including ferns and leafy trees, and other organic shapes that came to define this jewellery aesthetic. There was a strong emphasis on metalworking elements and the use of materials like enamel, shell, and semi-precious gemstones to decorate each piece of jewellery. Famous designers during this period were Rene Lalique and Louis Comfort Tiffany. Participants will also learn about the history of Art Nouveau as an art movement and its influence upon future jewellery designers and trends.
