Maureen Hung & Connie Tang

CYNTHIA LUI

Hong Kong designers Maureen Hung and Connie Tang studied at the University of the Arts London. Connie obtained her bachelor degree in retail design at the London College of Communication and started her own fashion trading business upon returning to Hong Kong. As for Maureen, she studied fashion womenswear and acquired her bachelor and master’s degree at Central Saint Martins and the Royal College of Art respectively. After graduation, Maureen worked for some of the fashion industry’s most influential designers and studios, such as John Galliano (Paris), Hussein Chalayan (London) and Handkerchief Production (Hong Kong).

Maureen and Connie met a couple of years ago in Hong Kong and started exploring art, ceramics, and sculpture together. They have been searching for different ways to integrate their passions in a jewellery brand which embraces upcycling over the past year. The designers draw inspiration from the avalanche of plastic waste produced by people on a daily basis. By combining plastic bottles with pure gold, they create hand-sculpted pieces that are unique and playful – this is how their brand “W;nk” was born. “When life throws you plastic, make style happen!”
